B.S. in Industrial Design
Portfolio
Howdy! I’m Jordan Bender, a Product Design major at San Francisco State University. I got into design through my intense passion for anything car related. I was browsing the internet for car related jobs and when I saw a listing on Tesla’s website for “Car Designer”, I knew that was my dream job and I would do anything to achieve that goal. Now that I am graduating from SFSU and searching the job field for my dream job, it still doesn’t seem real and I couldn’t be happier. Throughout my time at SF State, I learned many valuable skills in various programs such as Keyshot, Rhino, Solidworks and the Adobe Suite as well as sharpened my skills as a problem solver and creative thinker. My favorite thing to do in design is rendering with Keyshot and making my products look pretty, which should be evident throughout my work. Thank you for taking the time to look at what I’ve accomplished!
Pit Viper Ring
For this project, the prompt was to create a piece of Jewelry that imitates nature in some way. I decided to create a ring that incorporates nature through the use of scales that imitate those of a pit viper tree snake. I also added green resin to the outside so that the scales wouldn’t catch on anything or cause irritation against the user’s skin.
Dyson Garden V1
For this project, we were assigned to analyze the design language and various features of an existing product, and create a new product that exhibits the same features. I analyzed a Dyson Animal V6 handheld vacuum and incorporated the design language into a garden hose nozzle attachment. This nozzle differs from ordinary garden nozzles through it’s use of an ergonomic trigger rather than a rear mounted squeeze nozzle, and an internal water diversion tube that would redirect water into the desired nozzle.
Bermuda Collection Camp Knife
This knife was created as part of a luxury camping gear set based off of 1940’s yachting aesthetics that we labeled “The Bermuda Collection”. Our group realized that there is a large gap in the camping market and that there is really only one aesthetic for camping gear which seems to be the “sporty, tough, rubber” look. We wanted to give campers a choice in the look of their gear so we created a high end lantern, shovel, hatchet, and I personally designed the knife, all with matching materials of mahogany, chrome steel and a signature red, white, and blue stripe.
