Siobhan Keegan is a California-based visual designer and illustrator with experience working and studying in the USA, UK and Japan. Currently a senior, she is majoring in Visual Communication Design at San Francisco State University. She is passionate about design’s unique forms of communication and problem-solving, particularly within brand, graphic and game design. Her most recent project has been assisting with brand management and packaging design for Sones Cellars winery in Santa Cruz. In addition to design, Siobhan spent four years studying Geography, an experience that helped shape her understanding of human culture and interaction, whilst allowing her to observe the use of design within the structured field of humanities. After graduating, Siobhan would like to work in a setting where she can further advance her skills on a broad range of design projects. She would be delighted to return to Japan at some point to continue developing both her design and language skills.

Golden Gate Park Event Poster

The 2020 Golden Gate Park Events offer a unique mixture of botanical activities and vibrant nightlife throughout the month of October. These two themes are combined within this poster, drawing on abstract natural form and a high contrast color scheme. The layout of text was inspired by the stem and branch forms found within the natural world and the overall result creates an abstract visage of hanging lanterns, warmly illuminating the trees on a dark October night.

TAZO Tea Packaging Redesign

This re-design aims to improve packaging sustainability by reducing the amount of ink used on TAZO’s tea boxes, cutting down on the amount of harmful chemicals released when the tea box is recycled or thrown away. Instead of using ink, the main design and optical interest is created through an intricate embossed tea leaf design. The main use of color is centered on a single tea leaf on each side of the box to indicate and match the flavor of the tea, however, the rest of the box uses only black ink for the required text and icons. The stark lack of color and tangible embossed texture helps the packaging stand out and contrast from competitors on the shelf. The re-design will also help improve TAZO’s image of sustainability and consumer care while still maintaining the brand’s emphasis on the unexpected with this uniquely embossed design.

Climate Gallery

For my capstone senior design project I have been working with environmental justice and media advocacy non-profit Climate Creative to develop branding and a working prototype for a virtual reality Climate Gallery. The project focuses on combining education and creativity together to increase support for climate change awareness. The gallery also hopes to encourage social interaction and increase engagement with climate activism, especially during the current COVID19 pandemic, during which so much of our communication occurs remotely. I am currently in the process of prototyping the gallery space and look forward to sharing future progress on my project blog as the gallery develops https://siobhankeegandesign.blogspot.com.
