Ryan Marinick

B.S. in Industrial Design

Hi! My name is Ryan Marinick, and I’m an Industrial Design major with a concentration in Product Design at San Francisco State University. I really enjoy the whole design process from start to finish, taking both the user and sustainability into consideration in my designs. I believe that design should be easy to understand just from looking at the product. One of my favorite designers, Oki Sato, says, “Good design is something you can explain to your mother,” and I completely agree. In terms of my career, I am interested in finding a job where I can watch the entire design process happen and see it come to life, whether it be designing furniture, desk peripherals, or kitchenware. I aspire to gain hands-on experience regardless of where in the design field I begin my career. In my leisure time, I enjoy reading comics, watching movies, playing video games, or hanging out with my girlfriend.

SPORTS EQUIPMENT PRODUCT LINE: RPM Snow Gear

“Your industrial design consultancy has been contracted by a large international corporation that produces all sorts of athletic equipment. All of the products in a line must follow a consistent visual language based on form, color, texture, material, etc.” For this project, my group and I designed a snowboarding product line.

Aluminum Extrusion Project: Clutch

The project brief originally required us to follow a competitions rules and guidelines, but the brief changed and became more flexible with the rules and guidelines. I decided to still follow the competitions rules by creating at least one original aluminum extrusion profile. I decided to create Clutch which is a removable handle for your cookware, allowing the user to have move space in their storages.

Laser Cut Educational Toy: Shape Maker

Design and manufacture an educational toy that can be sold as a flatpack and can be assembled by the user after purchase. I wanted to create an educational toy aimed at children (5+) to help stimulate creativeness at a young age. You can still create the regular shapes that you know, but the goal of Shape Maker is to just create your own shapes.
